Framingham State Rams on a 5-game win streak

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — The Framingham State University women鈥檚 basketball team is hungry to defend their MASCAC Title from the 2019-20 season.

The Rams have opened their season winning six of their seven first contests. Their sole loss came on the road against Hamilton by only six points, 59-53. Framingham so far is perfect at home and has put 503 points together through their first seven games. Currently, they hold a five-game winning streak and will look to extend it even further.

Framingham posts up 70 points on average per game, but to do that a team needs several threats on offense. Flannery O鈥機onnor leads the charge with almost 16 points per game. She makes more than half the shots she takes and capitalizes at the free throw line with her 75.9% from the free throw line. O鈥機onnor is also the only leading scorer in the league who makes more than half of her shots; everyone else leading in scoring hovers around the 50% mark.

Kyrsta Padellaro has been assisting O鈥機onnor on the offensive end with 14.4 points of her own on average. She and O鈥機onnor were rookies in NCAA action back in 2019-20 where the Rams took home that MASCAC title. They both currently sit in the top five in scoring in the entire MASCAC Conference so far on the season.

That MASCAC Championship was the first in Framingham State University program鈥檚 history since the tournament’s inception in 1990. Head Coach Walter Paschal is a huge part of the reason why these Rams have been so successful as of late. He is currently the winningest women’s basketball coach in the school鈥檚 history despite only having completed seven full seasons of action.

He has turned the Rams into a primary contender for the MASCAC title year in and year out. His first notable achievement as head coach was obtaining a shared regular season title in 2013-14, which was the first in the school鈥檚 history. They are well on their way to contending for another championship, given that his team has a higher field goal percentage than any other squad in the conference and they are second in terms of total points scored.

The only question mark left for the Rams to answer is whether or not this positive momentum will be carried into this season’s conference matchups. Framingham has yet to play anyone in the MASCAC, but that should not take away from what they have been able to achieve so far in the season.
