GLASSBORO, N.J. —聽Longtime Rowan University assistant head football coach Tom Doddy recently announced his retirement after 22 years of working with the Profs鈥 program.
Doddy served in a variety of roles over the years and was most recently the offensive line coach and run game coordinator across the 2017 through 2021 seasons.
He came to Rowan in 2000 as offensive coordinator and remained in that role under current head coach Jay Accorsi through 2014. Doddy then took over as defensive coordinator from 2015 to 2016, before moving into the assistant head coach position.
Although Doddy’s true coaching passion was the offensive line, he also coached quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends, safeties, and defensive linemen. Along the way, he guided many Profs, while playing a key role in recruiting.
鈥淭om Doddy鈥檚 service to Rowan University, but most importantly the profound effect he had on the people within the University community, is immeasurable. He touched so many lives within our athletic department and provided countless young men in our football program the balanced touch of a fatherly figure,鈥 said Accorsi. 鈥淗e taught, instructed, and guided so many student-athletes, specifically the offensive linemen who he has an undying passion for. During his time with the Profs, Doddy played an integral role in the overall success of Rowan football, with the teams that posted 149 victories, won eight NJAC Championships, and made eight trips to the NCAA Playoffs 鈥 including three appearances in the NCAA Semifinals.
鈥淚 have been truly blessed to have the opportunity to coach at Rowan. We experienced some great successes and accomplishments. I was provided many opportunities to expand my horizons and make me a better coach,鈥 said Doddy, a 1983 graduate of Muhlenberg College. 鈥淚 am so proud to have been a part of it. And it鈥檚 not about one guy on the team, it鈥檚 about every guy.鈥
Before coming to Rowan, Doddy was the assistant football coach at his alma mater Muhlenberg from 1983 to 1996. He then came to New Jersey and Highland Regional High School in 1996 and was an assistant football coach and social studies teacher for four years.
鈥淎s my time at Rowan is ending, I am not retiring completely. This is a truly exciting time for me as I embark on the next chapter of my career,鈥 said Doddy. 鈥淚 would love to thank the athletic administration and coaching staff for a wonderful experience the past 22 years. Most importantly, I would like to thank the players, past and present, that I had the opportunity to work with at Rowan. You have certainly made an indelible impact on my life.鈥
