Germantown HS alumni Sophia Brown makes history with UW-Eau Claire on national stage
GERMANTOWN, Wis. — Germantown High School (GHS) alumni Sophia Brown experienced a history-making moment as a member of the UW-Eau Claire (UWEC) womens’ volleyball team this past season. The Blugolds defeated the Calvin Knights in the final round of the NCAA III tournament which took place in November.
The championship win made for the first national championship in the history of the UWEC womens’ volleyball program. Previously, the Blugolds had only one final four appearance under their belt when they fell short to Calvin University in the 2018 semi-final match-up. Although the Blugolds avenged their previous defeat and pulled off an impressive 3-0 sweep, each set was close and hard-fought.
Sophia, a middle hitter for the Blugolds, is completing her Freshman year at UWEC and has declared herself a communication science disorders major. Sophia’s sister, Hannah, also plays college volleyball at Bellarmine University in Kentucky. This feat is not only ground-breaking for UWEC but a thrill for those who watched Sophia in her stellar career at GHS. Congratulations to Sophia and the UWEC Blugolds!
