RBC QB Alex Brown gains national attention after honoring late mother in playoffs
RUMSON, N.J. — The day after losing his mother, Michelle Brown, to a 15-year battle with breast cancer, Red Bank Catholic quarterback Alex Brown suited up to play football under the lights of Count Basie Field in her honor.
His unforgettable performance that night ignited a response nationwide that was nothing short of spiritual. In a 58-34 victory over Morris Catholic in an NJSIAA Non-Public B playoff game, Brown, a senior committed to play at Bucknell, generated eight touchdowns, throwing聽six TD聽passes and running聽for two more scores. After a long scoring run, he dropped to his knee and looked skyward as the crowd cheered.

Brown posted videos of the game to Instagram and Twitter as a tribute to his beloved mother, and by morning his post had over 5 million views and he was fielding phone calls from sports networks like ESPN who wanted to share his story on a national level. Even Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady wrote a touching comment on his post.

Three weeks prior, Michelle watched Alex and son Markus, a sophomore who plays for Rumson-Fair Haven High School, play football for the last time. That night, No. 2 Red Bank Catholic upended No. 1 Rumson with a final score of 21-14. It was a night the brothers will never forget.
