Levon Grant takes over coaching Liberty County boys basketball
HINESVILLE, Ga. — Levon Grant is taking over as the coach of the boys basketball program at Liberty County High School in Hinesville. He will take over for Julian Stokes, who led the Panthers to a state title in his six years of coaching.
Grant has about 15 years of coaching experience with various other youth basketball teams around the state. He has coached in the southern and middle parts of Georgia. Some of the schools that Grant has coached at in the past include ones in Irwin and Colquitt Counties.
Grant came from Rome High School this past offseason. He was hired in April following Stokes鈥� resignation as the Wolves鈥� coach.
The last four years at Rome have helped Grant learn more about the game and understand how to coach young boys playing basketball. His attitude involves helping produce positive relationships with other members of the team.
鈥淚 was hired on April 1, and we started basketball and building relationships on April 2,鈥� Grant in an interview with the Coastal Courier.
鈥淵ear one is all about laying the foundation down of what we want,鈥� Grant . 鈥淭hree things we look for and build our program on is mentality, unity and work ethic.鈥�
While Grant is excited to bring the Panthers to further success, he is also respectful of the work Stokes did for the team during his six years with the program. Over the years, the Panthers have been reaching out to kids in middle school and helping develop them to be star players for future Panthers programs. The feeder system goes down to the sixth grade, although the school has been reaching kids in the third grade in a few situations.
Grant鈥檚 effort is about encouraging kids to be strong and to stay focused on the main goal of being successful in basketball.
鈥淥ur expectations for this year don鈥檛 change,鈥� he about his performance. 鈥淵ou want your standard to be as high as possible even though you know there鈥檚 going to be room for growth, ups and downs, peaks and valleys throughout the season.鈥�
The work that Grant is planning for the Liberty County boys basketball team will be worth exploring in the future. Grant鈥檚 skills in coaching and his experience will come in handy as he looks to make the Panthers more competitive and exciting to watch.
