Webster cross country’s Danielle Schultz named SLIAC Runner of the Year

SAINT LOUIS — The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2021 Cross Country All-Conference teams as well as the Runner of the Year awards.

For their efforts this season, and were named First Team All-SLIAC on the men’s side, while , , and earned First Team All-SLIAC honors on the women’s side.

In addition, and were named Second Team All-SLIAC while and were named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship team. Lastly, was named the SLIAC Women’s Cross-Country Runner of the Year.

Schultz, a junior out of Swansea, Illinois, had a breakout season for the Gorloks. She became the first student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Division III Women’s Cross-Country Championships in school history after taking 20th place in the NCAA Midwest Regional with a time of 22:28. Her time of 22:28 is a school record in the 6K race.

She is the first person to qualify for Nationals out of the SLIAC since 2012 and just the sixth person overall in the conferences 32-year history. For her efforts in the NCAA Midwest Regional, Schultz, along with teammate , became the first student-athletes in program history to be named NCAA All-Region. This is Schultz’ second straight SLIAC Runner of the Year award and just the fifth in program history.

Prior to the NCAA Midwest Regional Race, the Gorloks competed in the SLIAC Championships. In order to be named to the All-SLIAC teams, individuals must finish in the top seven to earn first team honors and in the top 14 to earn second team honors.

On the men’s side, took second place with a time of 27:00 while took seventh with a time of 27:24. On the women’s side, won the race with a time of 23:24 while took second with a time of 23:39 and took fifth with a time of 24:26. In addition, finished in 12th place with a time of 26:31 and took 13th place with a time of 26:44 to earn Second Team All-SLIAC honors.

The 2021 cross country season wrapped up on Saturday, November 20th when traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to compete in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. The women’s race was set to take place at 12 p.m. EST at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. The race was streamed live on .
