Lakeville South Cougars deliver winning performance against Shakopee in playoffs
LAKEVILLE, MN – Top-ranked football club Lakeville South is staying true to its goal of getting results in all playoff games. And the state tournament鈥檚 quarterfinals were no exception.
Head coach Ben Burk was all smiles after watching his team score another breakthrough performance on Nov. 12 which outlasted Shakopee, getting a winning score of 42-28 in the Class 6A quarterfinals. 鈥淭hey have it in their DNA now,鈥� 鈥淵ou need to come out on top of a very cold game to play at U.S. Bank Stadium.鈥�
The team paved the way for a go-ahead score which came from lead player Josh Jacobson. Great running back acts are definitely his forte and the Cougars couldn鈥檛 be more proud of the display. But Lakeville South isn鈥檛 celebrating just yet as they now advance forward to compete against St. Michael-Albertville.
With many referring to the game as d茅j脿 vu for both sides, it was soon evident how the win didn鈥檛 come easy, considering how brilliant of a fight Shakopee is known for putting up.
鈥淪hakopee is undoubtedly tough and physical, therefore we always wish to measure our performance against teams such as these,鈥� .
鈥淭hey battled and we battled. It looked like a state championship game,鈥� mentioned team Shakopee鈥檚 coach Ray Betton. 鈥淚t really stings because we wanted it so bad!鈥�
This makes Lakeville South鈥檚 win their third consecutive seasonal tournament toward downtown Minneapolis.
鈥淭here鈥檚 nothing that motivates a team more than bringing it to The Bank,鈥� The Cougars can always rely upon him for stellar touchdowns and confident throws.
The top ranked high school football team believes that they are now at a point in their program where they don鈥檛 view any moment as being too big. Instead, they鈥檙e looking at each game as an event with higher stakes. And that鈥檚 why they鈥檙e taking it one step at a time while understanding and preparing well.
There鈥檚 a good reason why the Lakeville South Cougars are referred to by many as the best prep team in the state of Minnesota. Each player exudes confidence that resonates throughout their program.

The entire unit works hard during training, leaving them strong and tough with athletic performances worth a mention, every time they are on the field. Moreover, it鈥檚 their throwback offense that so many others find so hard to defend against.
