Memorable senior night results for Wingate University鈥檚 soccer teams
WINGATE, N.C. — The Wingate University men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 soccer teams, led by honored seniors, had different results when Mars Hill University came to play on Nov. 3.聽 The women鈥檚 team fought their way to a 3-0 victory while the men finished their home game with a 0-0 tie. While the scores might not be memorable, the experiences the seniors had for their teams and their school will give them lasting memories for many years to come.
The Senior Women
The senior day shutout for the women gave the team their seventh straight conference win and the seniors a fitting end to their regular season at home.聽 Seniors were honored prior to the game.
McKenna DeLong 鈥� McKenna is a forward from Reading, Pennsylvania, who has been a strong leader in the front of the offensive end of the field for the team. McKenna earned first team All-Conference honors for her play this season. McKenna鈥檚 favorite quote is, 鈥淲e don鈥檛 want to tell our dreams; we want to show them.鈥� – Ronaldo
Alicia Rubio Garcia 鈥� Alicia has scored five goals in six games from the forward position this season so far. She is from Llanera, Spain, and is one of many Bulldogs from foreign countries. Alicia also earned first team All-Conference honors this season. Alicia鈥檚 favorite quote is, 鈥淒reams are not what you see in your sleep; dreams are the things which do not let you sleep.鈥�
Chandler Hendrix 鈥� From Sharpsburg, Georgia, Chandler solidifies the defense and aids the goalies in keeping the ball out of the opposing net. Chandler鈥檚 favorite quote is, 鈥淲hatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as for working with the Lord, not for human masters.鈥� 鈥� Colossians 3:23
Caroline Peters 鈥� A midfielder from Sharpsburg, Georgia, Caroline has played in many games throughout her career and offers her leadership to her teammates on and off the field. Caroline鈥檚 favorite quote is, 鈥淒on鈥檛 let your alarm clock be the only reason you wake up.鈥� 鈥� Ray Lewis
The Senior Men
Although the men鈥檚 team didn鈥檛 find victory on senior night, they also didn鈥檛 end the evening in defeat.聽 With a 0-0 tie, which is pretty common in soccer, the men were able to honor their seniors prior to the game as well.
Daniel Kuper 鈥� Daniel is a midfielder from Hamburg, Germany, who has been a solid player in the middle of the field, continually feeding the ball to the offense.
Soren Nygaard 鈥� Soren is a forward from Herning, Denmark.聽 His passing and presence on the field have helped lead the way to many victories for the Bulldogs.
Jackson Hollenbach 鈥� Jackson is a defender from Raleigh, North Carolina, making him a local player from only a couple of hours away from Wingate University. Jackson is an integral part of keeping the ball out of the net and sending it back to the offense.
This trio of Bulldogs held led the team to back-to-back SAC Championships and the 2019 NCAA national quarterfinals.
A Fitting Celebration
One of the best ways to honor those who have given years of hard work and dedication to a team is to celebrate their accomplishments during their final game on their home field.聽 That鈥檚 what happened for the Wingate University鈥檚 soccer teams on the wonderful November evening against Mars Hill University.
