Chris Champeau wants Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs to continue improving

RUMSON, N.J. — Chris Champeau has been a staple on the sideline of Rumson-Fair Haven鈥檚 varsity boys basketball team since 2009. He has been very active in helping the Bulldogs stay competitive, and people have noticed him over the years for some of the fancy suits he wears.

鈥淚 know I look like a goof鈥 but I鈥檓 just glad to be back out here,鈥 Champeau . He feels confident in his ability to keep the Bulldogs competing their hardest. But he wants to be the best coach in the state of New Jersey and not just the best-looking one.

Champeau has been a consistent presence for the Bulldogs as they aim to reach the top of the Shore A Central league. The team was the top-ranked club in Division Central Group II in 2015 and 2017.

The 2017 campaign was Champeau鈥檚 most successful. The team went 24-2 that year, winning all 10 of their Shore A Central league games. The club also won five playoff games before losing to Camden that year.

The last few years have been tough on Champeau and the rest of the team. The 2020 season saw the group going 12-12. While the Bulldogs reached the playoffs that year, they lost their second playoff game to Manasquan.

The 2021 season was also heavily abbreviated due to the global pandemic. The team went 5-4 that season, winning two playoff games before losing their third to Wall Township.

Champeau is excited about how the 2021-22 season will resemble something normal. He wants to look forward to a season where things will feel normal, and there will be plenty of teams to compete against in the coming year.

He is also excited about having fan attendance at the team鈥檚 games once again.

鈥淭he parents want to see their kids play, so it was nice to see them get a chance to do that,鈥 Champeau about the opportunity for people to come back to see the team play.

One hope he has for the season involves how there will be some sense of fair competition. The 2020-21 season was plagued by many schools have been shut down for weeks due to COVID-19 exposures. Many Shore Conference basketball teams shut down, eventually reaching nearly half the varsity boys teams since practice began in January 2021.

鈥淲e鈥檙e just going to take what comes our way and be happy that we鈥檙e in here and just battle,鈥 Champeau to Shore Sports Network.

The Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs will be looking forward to making an impact for the 2021-22 season. Champeau will be there to lead the team and guide the young players on the squad to success.
