The return of powerhouse football at Satellite High
SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. — Satellite High School has seen a turnaround in its football program the last two seasons. At the time we interviewed Coach Ted Kimmey, Satellite High School Football is undefeated. Let’s find out a little more about what changed and the future for the Satellite High School Scorps.

The 2019 season seemed to be turning around and then the last two seasons, your team has been doing well with a winning season last year and is off to a great start this year. What has been the difference in the last few years?
Ted Kimmey: I would say this has been a 5-year build, but we are not done. So much more to do and accomplish here – and that is what is so exciting. I think the biggest difference is our participation numbers which have grown from roughly 40 football players a few short years ago to over 110 football players now. When you have more kids, you find more contributors and you build the depth needed to compete against the other teams in the county and beyond. The other big difference is our coaching staff – we have been able to hire multiple former Head Coach’s and build a staff that is both competent and caring – a bunch of flat-out winners!
Talk about the team this year. What is great about the team and what is working?
Kimmey: Our team is built around a great class of 2022 Seniors who have done nothing but win since they arrived at Satellite. We play great defense, and compliment with an exciting high-powered offense – anytime you can complement each other on both sides of the ball, create turnovers and limit turnovers on offense the more success you will have, and we have been able to do that over these last few years. However, there are no trophies or awards given after mid-season – we must continue to maintain this standard of excellence for the rest of the year.

What are the goals for this season?
Kimmey: Our goal is to win the District and make it to the FHSAA Playoffs.
Your fans are excited about the turnaround the last few seasons, what is special about the Scorp fans?
Kimmey: Scorp Fans are so special because they know how far we have come – they appreciate the improved product on the field and know how much hard work has gone into getting it there. We are finally a football town with a beach/surfing problem – and not the other way around. I just ask that they keep showing up and showing support for the players and coaches that have worked so hard.
