Edgewood High junior, Kaiden Harrington, records her 1,000th career kill
ELLETTSVILLE, Ind. — Beth May has been coaching volleyball for the past 10 years, the last 4 as the Varsity Head Coach at Edgewood High School. She has had a love for the game since her stepdad introduced her to the sport as a young girl. 鈥淢y love for volleyball was instant,鈥� Coach May said, 鈥淚 did nothing else.鈥�
Coach May has the Mustangs sitting in 2nd place in the Western Indiana Conference, enjoying a winning season that includes a win over Sullivan and two victories against Terre Haute North as well as claiming the championship in the Joyce Gates Invitational. Edgewood has won 18 out of their last 19 matches, including 13 straight from late August through late September.
It鈥檚 been a season to remember including one of Coach鈥檚 proudest moments, witnessing junior Kaiden Harrington record her 1,000th career kill.
For those not familiar with volleyball terminology, a kill is a spike/set/tip that leads directly to a point. 鈥淢y goals coming into the season,鈥� Harrington said, 鈥渨ere to set the school record for most kills in a single season, get my 1,000th [career] kill, and for our team to win the sectional title. I have obtained 2 out of 3 goals and now we鈥檙e hoping for the title to be ours.鈥�
After 1,000+ career kills, Kaiden says it鈥檚 a team effort and she loves the camaraderie built throughout the match. 鈥淲hat I love is not exactly how we get the point,鈥� Harrington said, 鈥渂ut the celebration that comes with winning the point.鈥� According to Kaiden, everyone on the team plays a role in their success. 鈥淓veryone has to do their job,鈥� said Harrington, 鈥渕y success does not come without my teammates鈥� success. It takes everyone.鈥�
