海角社区 Friday night five: Second round of the WIAA playoffs
MUSKEGO, Wis. (BVM) — The second round of the WIAA high school football playoffs finished up this past weekend. Here are the best performances from the second round of the playoffs:
1. Adam Balcerak, senior linebacker, Muskego High School
Muskego has been dominating in the playoffs just as many predicted they would. In the first round of the playoffs, they beat Oconomowoc 35-0, avenging their only loss on the season. Last Friday they beat Sussex Hamilton 31-7 and the defense once again was dominant. Senior linebacker Adam Balcerak in particular made his presence known. Balcerak led the Warriors with seven tackles, five of which were solo tackles. But where he stood out was in the passing game as the linebacker had four passes defended and two interceptions. Muskego will now play conference rivals and co-conference champions Mukwonago in the third round of the playoffs.
2. Beau Kopp, senior quarterback, Cuba City High School
Cuba City鈥檚 Beau Kopp continued his impressive senior season last Friday when the Cubans took on Lancaster. Kopp went 17-of-26 for 281 yards, two touchdowns and one interception as Cuba City won 41-30. Kopp didn鈥檛 just get it done through the air but on the ground, too. When Lancaster went up 30-28 in the fourth quarter, Kopp had the two rushing touchdowns that gave the Cubans the win. Cuba City will now play Darlington on Friday.
3. Elijah Shefchik, senior fullback, Denmark High School
It was a high-scoring game between Denmark and Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian but each team scored in their own way. KLC did so through the air like they have all season and Denmark did it on the ground. In the end, the Vikings were able to win 46-40 in large part due to the performance of their fullback. Senior Elijah Shefchik had 33 rushes for 362 yards and six touchdowns including the two touchdowns that iced the game for Denmark. The Vikings will now face off against Catholic Memorial in the next round of the playoffs.
4. Tyler Bowman, senior wide receiver, Spring Valley High School
After going down 14-0 early in the second quarter Spring Valley was able to rally to win 27-21. Tyler Bowman was a big part of that comeback. The senior wide receiver had 11 receptions for 206 yards, three touchdowns and a two-point conversion. After scoring the touchdown and two-point conversion that tied the game at 21-21, he then had a 55-yard touchdown catch with a little more than two minutes that ended up being the winning touchdown. The Cardinals will now play Regis on Friday.
5. Colin Obermann, senior running back, Kimberly High School
Kimberly was in control the entire game when they played Chippewa Falls on Friday. The Papermakers started the game by scoring 28 unanswered points, all of which involved senior running back Colin Olbermann. Obermann ran for his first three touchdowns, including a 78-yarder in the third quarter and then threw for his fourth touchdown. Kimberly won 35-13 and the senior Papermaker finished the game with 16 rushes for 183 yards, three touchdowns and threw once for five yards and a touchdown. Kimberly will now play Appleton North this week.
