Wisconsin commit, Whitefish Bay鈥檚 Joe Brunner wants a state championship
WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. — Joe Brunner is a 6-foot-6 305-pound lineman 4-star recruit for the Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes. He has put in the work and has a bright future ahead of him, with a potential state championship, and a spot on the Wisconsin Badgers next season.
He loves football and the contact that comes with it. Speaking to Stephanie Sutton on Milwaukee, Brunner said, “I tried every sport I was into the contact the most. My dad saw that my mom saw that so they put me into football and I loved it. Ever since I stepped on the field.”
Brunner’s parents made a great choice. A man his size has to eat and speaking to WISN Brunner said, ” In the morning I probably have about two pieces of toast, eight to ten eggs. Then lunch two sandwiches, for dinner got to have a lot of protein, a lot of meat.” His ideal meal is his mom’s lasagna and garlic bread.
Brunner is a workhorse on the offensive line for the Blue Dukes. Offensive line coach Jake Wolter said, “He’s just a terror out there, however, the second he steps back across that line, he is the nicest young man you would ever want to meet.” A common theme for Brunner. A freak of nature on the football field, and a big sweet baby off the field. Teammate defensive lineman Reid Jamerson said, 鈥淗e’s definitely a little kid. We call him the big baby, he’s definitely the baby of the team as big as he is.”
Not only is Brunner big and strong on the field and the nicest man off the field. He also runs track and is quick on his feet. Brunner even qualified for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association state track and field championship. A terror on the field indeed. Brunner is in the Adidas All-American Bowl, where top football players from the country compete.
Brunner鈥檚 scouting report confirms what great athletic ability he has. According to Allen Trieu on , his scouting report reads:
鈥淭ough, rugged offensive lineman who finishes his blocks. Gets off the ball well at his size and also shows some twitch. Runs well and gets downfield to make blocks easily. Plays with good balance and keeps his feet when drive blocking. We do not currently have verified height and length on him but looks like a right tackle at the moment. Run blocking is more his forte right now. Will need additional reps and technical polishing in pass protection. Also has years of basketball experience. The way he plays and his lineman mentality should make him a safe bet to be a successful college lineman who can be a multi-year starter.鈥
Brunner committed to the Wisconsin Badgers in June of 2021, but Brunner is still focused on what he has in hand first. This year, Brunner is hungry for a state title. Brunner said, speaking on the Blue Dukes playoff run, “I have the ability to put it all together and go win a state championship. We will represent this town very well. First things first Blue Dukes state title.”
The Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes hope to do just that. Speaking of coaching Brunner in his last year, Blue Dukes coach Jake Wolter said “It’s truly a once in the lifetime experience. It鈥檚 been so fun.” The Blue Dukes take on Port Washington Oct. 29.
