Stanislav Svozil: The biggest international catch of the Pats in the 2021-2022 season

REGINA, Saskatchewan — Stanislav Svozil is a Czech Republic hockey player who plays for the Regina Pats in the Western Hockey League. He was drafted in round four of the 2021 NHL Draft, No. 69 overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets.聽

Svozil was born on Jan. 17, 2003 in Prerov, Czech Republic, to the family of Stanislav Svozil Sr. The 18-year-old is a defender and lefty shooter. He is 6-foot-1 feet, weighs 83 kg, and has a brother name David.

Svozil started playing the game of hockey in his hometown, Prerov. He joined the HC Prerov U16 team in the Czech U16 2015-2016 season, where he played only two games and provided one assist. In the 2016-2017 season, he played 34 games, scoring three goals and providing 13 assists.

He was the third defender with the most assists in the skater statistics behind Matus Hlavac with 20 assists and Jan Kopecek with 17 assists. He also played five games at the U18 level for the club.聽

The 2017-2018 season was his best season in terms of goals and assists. Svosil scored nine goals and provided 26 assists in only 23 games played. He had the most assists in the season and was ranked second in the skater statistics, two points behind Patrik Kleniar, who surpassed him with 10 games. Meanwhile, in the playoffs, he scored one goal and provided three assists in just two games played. He also played six games in U18, scoring one goal and providing four assists.聽

Svozil scored his most career goals in a season during the 2018-2019 season with 13 goals in just 17 games when he joined the HC Kometa Brno U16 team. He also provided 16 assists in the same season. He was ranked sixth in the skater statistics, and every other player ranked higher than him played at least 10-15 games more than him.聽

In the playoffs, he scored six goals and provided nine assists in just seven games. He shared the top-mark of the most assists in the playoffs with two other players (Jakub Brabenec and Juraj Slafkovsky) and was ranked second in the playoffs skater statistics with one goal behind Jakub.聽

In the Czech U19 the same season, he played his most career games in a single season. He played 40 games, scored eight goals, and provided 19 assists. For this reason, he was ranked seventh in the skater statistics. Most players higher than him played more games than him.聽

Svozil represented the Czech Republic in the U16 International-Jr of 2019. He scored five goals and provided nine assists in 16 games. He was the player with the most assists in the skater statistics, and only one player had more goals than him.聽

The 2019-2020 season was a very busy one for Svozil. He played three games in the Czech U17, scored one goal, and provided seven assists. Also, he played 10 games in the DHL Cup, scored one goal, and provided five assists. Finally, he played 41 games in the Czech League, scored two goals, and provided three assists.聽

At the international level, the young defender played six games in the WHC-17 and provided four assists. Also, he was the assistant captain of the team. He later joined the Czech Republic U17 International-Jr, where he played eight games and provided five assists. While in the Czech Republic U18 International-Jr, he played 11 games and scored one goal. This made it 79 games in the 2019-2020 season.聽

In the 2020-2021 season, Svozil played 30 games in the regular season and scored one goal with two assists. Additionally, he played eight games in the playoffs before joining HC Prerov on loan, where he played three games, with one goal and assist each

Again, duty called, as his country needed him to represent them at the international level. Therefore, he was named the assistant captain of the Czech Republic U18 team for the WJC-18. He played five games and provided one assist. In the Czech Republic U20 in the WJC-20, he also played five games and provided another assist in the Czech Republic International.聽

There is no hockey player currently playing at the Western Hockey League who has represented his country the way Svozil has, and this is mainly because he is very good at what he does.聽

He signed for the Regina Pats in the 2021-2022 season and has since played nine games with them and provided five assists. He has also represented the Czech Republic 9th this year at the U20 international-Jr, where he played seven games, scored a goal along with two assists.聽

Sometimes we easily forget that Svozil is a defender because of the way he scores goals and provides assists. However, when you look at the teenager’s statistics in the regular league, playoffs, and international games, one will agree that Svozil is indeed the biggest international catch for the Pats.
