Welcome to the spotlight, UTSA Roadrunners
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — This past Saturday, the UTSA Roadrunners continued to make their own history as they are now 8-0 for the first time in the program鈥檚 tenure. The Roadrunners did this by once again dominating on both sides of the ball. The 45-16 win over Louisiana Tech marks the 3rd straight week that the Roadrunners have scored at least 45 points.
The Roadrunners continue to remain in the top 25 poll again this week, moving up one spot to No. 23. This is the first time in program history that UTSA has been in the top 25 poll for two straight weeks, and they are loving every minute of it.
Running back Sincere McCormick was given a lot of responsibility this past week with 23 carries. With those attempts, McCormick went for 113 yards and three touchdowns. This marked the 6th time McCormick has hit the 100 yard mark this season, and the three touchdowns tied a season high which he had previously set against Memphis. After the game, McCormick talked about the team being in the spotlight.
鈥淢ore for the program you know?鈥 he . 鈥淭his is the first time in history being on SportsCenter, you know we love it, and we respect it. You know it鈥檚 something we earned, but we can鈥檛 let that define us. We got to continue to show what this university is about. All the players and the stuff they work hard for just to let it be shown nationally.鈥
UTSA head coach, Jeff Taylor, also spoke after the game on the city of San Antonio and what this football team means to the fans.
鈥淚鈥檓 just so happy for them (the fans), that鈥檚 what makes this game so special,鈥 he . 鈥淎nd that鈥檚 why, I don鈥檛 want to get happy too much because I鈥檓 so fearful if I look up and enjoy anything, it鈥檚 all going to go away right? So I just keep my head down, keep grinding, trust the process, believe in our culture, because I know how happy it makes people.鈥
UTSA quarterback, Frank Harris, spoke following the game about his team being in this new spotlight.
鈥淭hat鈥檚 just stuff, something you can鈥檛 really be worried about,鈥 he . 鈥淚t鈥檚 a great feeling to be ranked, but that鈥檚 out of our control and we got a game to play. That鈥檚 something we just got to keep our focus on, and I think we did a great job of doing that.鈥
This unchartered water of national press and being on SportsCenter seems to be something that the Roadrunners are handling exceptionally well. Their unity and attitude of 鈥渄oing it for the city and the fans鈥 makes them a team that people want to root for.
The Roadrunners have a bye week this coming week, followed by a massive game against UTEP which will determine first place in Conference USA鈥檚 West division. With only four more regular season games remaining, the Roadrunners will have to make sure they do not look too far ahead, but the possibility of an undefeated regular season is starting to peek over the horizon.
