Where are they now?: ‘Last Chance U’ Season 2’s Dakota Allen

JACKSONVILLE (BVM) — “Last Chance U” has had its fair share of well-known athletes. One of those athletes, Dakota Allen, now plays football for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Allen started his football career at Summer Creek High School in Humble, Texas. Allen helped Summer Creek to an 11-1 overall record (8-0 district) in the 2013-14 season. During that season he collected 112 total tackles and three interceptions. According to , Allen was a three-star athlete and drew interest from Oklahoma, TCU, Iowa and Texas Tech. He chose Texas Tech.

In his first season with the Red Raiders, Allen had 87 total tackles (45 solo). But after his freshman season, Allen found himself at East Mississippi Community College (Scooba). Scooba was the focus of the show in its first two seasons.

Allen played in 12 games and had a total of 117 tackles before transferring back to Texas Tech. In his return, Allen was named a team captain and led the defense with 102 total tackles, two sacks and two interceptions. His final season proved to be more the same. A team captain once again, Allen played in 11 games and was named to the All-Big 12 first team.

Following his time in Lubbock, Allen would enter the 2019 NFL Draft and was selected 251st overall by the Los Angeles Rams, becoming the first “Last Chance U” player to be drafted. But the Rams would release him.

Now a key player on special teams and a backup linebacker, Allen has found a home with the Jaguars. In 2020 he played in 13 games, collecting 18 total tackles (12 solo).

From Texas Tech, EMCC and now the NFL, Allen has had quite the athletic journey. Now he is motivated to keep on playing football at the highest level.
