UTSA Roadrunners looking for a perfect season record

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — When people think of the remaining undefeated teams in college football, they probably think of Georgia, Cincinnati or maybe even Oklahoma. However, there is one undefeated team that not many people know about yet, the UTSA Roadrunners. UTSA is 7-0 for the first time in their program鈥檚 history following a dominant 45-0 win over Rice this past weekend. Beyond that, the Roadrunners have also cracked the top 25 for the first time in program history, as they landed at No. 24 in this week鈥檚 .

Following the win over Rice, UTSA wide receiver Joshua Cephus spoke to the media about the feeling in the locker room following the 7-0 start.

鈥淚 feel like we鈥檙e satisfied with today,鈥 he . 鈥淏ut you know, 24-hour rule, enjoy the win, and get ready for the next one. 鈥 It means a lot. It means that we鈥檙e executing to the best of our ability. Our defense plays hard and plays well all four quarters. So, that helps.鈥

Cephus finished the win over Rice with four receptions for 63 yards and two touchdowns. This was his first game this season where he recorded multiple touchdowns. He also extended his streak of catching at least one touchdown to three straight weeks.

Quarterback Frank Harris, who threw for 125 yards and two touchdowns, as well as rushed for 47 yards and one more touchdown, spoke to the media about how the team was feeling after the win.

鈥淚t was good for us,鈥 he . 鈥淲e knew they were going to come out there and compete. They鈥檙e a great team. I just think offensively we came out there and finally competed for four quarters. At home, so it was a big deal for us. 鈥 Defensively, those guys always come with it, each and every week. So we really stressed offensively to come out there and play well at home and I think we did that, so just a great complete game for all of us, and we鈥檙e just blessed to be 7-0.鈥

Roadrunners head coach, Jeff Taylor, also spoke to the media about the game, and what it means to the kids and the city to continue to win.

鈥淭his is by far the best game we鈥檝e played in all three phases,鈥 he . 鈥淩eally proud of my kids. This was a big game, lot of pressure on those kids. The city has done a wonderful job, everybody has about trying to get everyone to the Alamo Dome. Those kids understand the pressure. And that鈥檚 a lot on them. They feel like they鈥檙e carrying the weight of the city in a way, and that didn鈥檛 bother them at all. Came out playing as good as I鈥檝e seen them play. I hope the fans were happy. I know I was.鈥

If the team does feel the weight of the city during games, they sure do not play like it. This historic season for UTSA is showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon. The Roadrunners will travel to Louisiana Tech next week before setting up a massive game at UTEP, which will put the winner in the driver鈥檚 seat for the Conference USA West Division. With only five games to go until the end of the regular season, a perfect record does not seem out of reach for the Roadrunners.
