Boo! Meet one of the most frightening recruits in the Chattanooga area
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Orlando Carter got the nickname 鈥淏oo鈥 from his mom at a young age and it stuck. It is very fitting considering he scares high school defenses across the Chattanooga area on a weekly basis.
The sophomore running back/cornerback hybrid for Chattanooga Christian started off the 2021 season with a bang, racking up 392 total yards and five touchdowns in his second game of the season.
He would follow this up two weeks later with 126 total yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. The result: offers from West Virginia, Florida State and Kentucky the ensuing week.
鈥淚 really wasn鈥檛 expecting them to offer me, because they were far,鈥 Carter said. 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 think they鈥檇 look all the way to Chattanooga to find a person like me.鈥
He attracted attention earlier on from closer schools, receiving his first offer from the University of Tennessee following his freshman season. Carter was at an AAU tournament when he got the call from Tennessee defensive backs coach Willie Martinez.
鈥淚 was shocked,鈥 Carter said. 鈥淚 knew he was going to call me, but I wasn鈥檛 expecting an offer.鈥

Carter is an advocate of branching out into other sports, rather than specializing in one. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound athlete also plays basketball while participating in track and field to stay active.
鈥淚 play that game for fun,鈥 Carter said. 鈥淚t keeps me in shape for football.鈥
The jack of all trades is profiled as either a slot receiver or cornerback at the next level due to his speed and pure football ability. With on the field athleticism being the main attraction for Carter, the off the field work ethic, mindset and heart are just as captivating for college coaches.
鈥淥ff the field, I show my character and who I am,鈥 Carter said.
Despite Sundays being a typical off day for most, Carter gets a workout every week with friend and teammate AJ Wallace. Wallace is just a freshman and also holds an offer from Kentucky.
The chemistry that Carter has with Wallace and the rest of his teammates is something he is looking to strengthen. He is looking to emerge as a leader in the locker room, someone who can rally the team when they need a boost.
鈥淲hen we鈥檙e down, everybody gets mad and I can鈥檛 pick them up,鈥 Carter said. 鈥淭hey just want to win.鈥
As far as individual goals go, Carter is hoping to win a Tennessee Mr. Football award at some point in his high school career. With the numbers he is putting up and the more accolades he earns, Carter will not only be a household name locally, but nationally as well.
