For GlenOak golfer Madison Reemsnyder, winning is par for the course
CANTON, Ohio — Canton is home to some of the most promising young golfers in the state. One of these young phenoms is GlenOak senior Madison Reemsnyder. She鈥檚 having a heck of a year and she鈥檚 not finished yet! Reemsnyder is looking to finish the 2021 campaign strong and carry that success into her freshman year of college.
Reemsnyder attends school at GlenOak High School in Canton, Ohio, where she has had a ton of success on the golf course. She was the Division I state runner-up in individual play and just won her third straight Elms sectional title. She鈥檚 also the reigning Federal League Player of the Year and hopes to retain the role in her senior season.
Despite being the state runner-up in her sophomore year, Reemsnyder failed to qualify as a junior. With the season that she鈥檚 having so far, however, her return to glory should happen this year. She鈥檚 enjoying success as a member of the GlenOak team, but she also had a lot of big performances during the summer. She won the Northern Ohio Junior PGA Section Championship (by seven strokes!), she won the girl鈥檚 stroke play at the International Junior Masters in East Aurora, New York and finished the summer off by competing in the Girls Junior PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club, tying for 43rd in the event.
Arguably, her most important win of the year came when she won her third straight individual sectional title at the Elms Golf Course in Massillon, Ohio. The win was a big one for Reemsnyder as she continued her bid for another run at state champion. The win didn鈥檛 come easy for Madison, however, as she struggled in the early going and had to calm her nerves.
鈥淚 just kind of stepped back and said, 鈥楳addie, you need to calm down, you got this,鈥欌
Golf is an individual game where it鈥檚 just you and the ball. There isn鈥檛 a team or substitution that can come in for you if you鈥檙e struggling. Madison鈥檚 ability to walk and talk herself through tough situations is a defining feature that great golfers must possess. It鈥檚 also part of the reason that she鈥檚 as successful as she is.聽
Reemsnyder is a promising prospect who has already committed to Xavier University where she will presumably continue her golfing career. Before making that jump, however, she hopes to get one more monkey off her back–the girl鈥檚 Division I state golf tournament. Coming back from a disappointment can be tough, but Reemsnyder aims to do just that. She鈥檚 got two weeks left to prepare before she lays it all on the line.
Regardless of how she fares at the state tournament, however, Madison Reemsnyder has a bright future ahead of her. Xavier University will welcome her with open arms as she hopes for continued success on the golf course.
