Alabama State football tops Bethune-Cookman 38-24
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama State Hornets defeated the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 38-24 in the first matchup between the two teams since 2012. With the victory, Alabama State started its conference schedule with a win, which was also Bethune-Cookman’s first conference game as a member of the SWAC.
Coming out of a bye week, the Hornets turned in their most convincing performance of the season after barely scraping by Miles College 14-13 in their season opener and suffering a 62-0 blowout loss to the Auburn Tigers the following week.
Alabama State outgained Bethune-Cookman 378-259 in total yards, while holding the Wildcats to only 12 rushing yards. The Hornets defense rebounded well after surrendering 538 total yards (including 364 rushing yards) to Auburn, limiting Bethune-Cookman to only 4.05 yards per play and allowing the Wildcats to only convert two of 12 third downs.
Alabama State will look to build on its momentum when it travels to Tallahassee on Saturday, Oct. 2 to take on the Florida A&M Rattlers.
