Ottawa Gee-Gees fall to Queens Golden Gales, drop to 0-2
KINGSTON, Ontario — The University of Ottawa Gee-Gees lost 30-7 to the Queen鈥檚 Golden Gaels on Saturday, keeping the Gee-Gees winless on the season. Ottawa fell behind early, with Queen鈥檚 getting a 30-0 lead and the Gee-Gees only scoring on their last drive of the game. Queen鈥檚 remains undefeated on the season.
Ottawa struggled to get the ground game going, averaging only 3.3 yards per carry. Queen鈥檚 had a much more successful day on the ground. They ran for 201 yards on the day, including 145 from fourth year running back Rasheed Tucker. Through two weeks, Tucker has the OUA rushing lead with 224 yards. He didn鈥檛 find the endzone this week, but quarterback James Keenan had one rushing touchdown while fullback Keenan Burtonshaw had a pair.
Queen鈥檚 overwhelmed the Ottawa offense. One week after being the OUA Defensive Player of the Week, defensive tackle Anthony Federico was back at it this week. He racked up two sacks, four tackles for loss, and seven total tackles and was a force on the line. The Gaels also intercepted Ottawa鈥檚 Ben Maracle twice, with one each by linebacker Nolan Bedard and defensive back Eric Colonna.
Ottawa鈥檚 next game is the annual Panda Game against the Carleton Ravens. The game takes place at TD Place, home of the CFL鈥檚 Ottawa Redblacks. The Golden Gaels are on the road, heading to Toronto to face the 1-0 University of Toronto Blues.
