Local girl makes good: Anna Mallette鈥檚 success continues at the next level
MASSILLON, Ohio — Anna Mallette was a force to be reckoned with in the girls volleyball at the high school level, and that success has continued. Mallette is a former team captain and team MVP out of Jackson High School where she helped lead the Polar Bears to the Regional Finals. She enjoyed just as much success off the court and was a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club.
On the court, Mallette ended her senior season at Jackson with an astounding 418 kills, a .348 hitting percentage and 39 aces. She also enjoyed success on the defensive end garnering 372 digs. She was one of the best two-way players on the Polar Bear squad and earned First Team All Federal League, First Team All Stark County, First Team All District 4, and Division I Third Team All Ohio Honors.聽
Mallette managed to make the jump to local college Malone University and has been enjoying success at that level as well. She was joined by fellow Polar Bear and teammate Anna Hobble who decided to commit at the same time that Mallette did.聽
Since joining the Pioneers, Mallette has twice been named to the Great Midwest All-Academic Team. As a sophomore, she managed to earn a spot on the Great Midwest All-Conference Third Team. She鈥檚 in the midst of her junior year and is trying to lead a struggling Malone team out of the bottom of the conference standings.聽
The Pioneers started the year off hot at 4-1 but are in the midst of a six-game losing streak and are winless in their conference. They sit at 4-7 on the year and Mallette hopes to lead them back into the win column.聽
In her sophomore season, Mallette led the team in kills and started in all but one of the games of their COVID-shortened 2020 season. She is following up on her sophomore success by leading the team in kills with 103, she is second in both aces and digs, and has garnered 10 blocks so far. Mallette is an all-around threat, and a force to be reckoned with.聽
Off the court, she鈥檚 no slouch either. Mallette is a two-time Great Midwest Academic All-Conference Team member, and takes on a variety of classes as a student. She鈥檚 a nursing major, but is also minoring in criminal justice, which leaves her with little time outside of school and volleyball. Mallette is also a member of both the MNSA and NCF.聽
Mallette is a shining example of how to be a student-athlete who enjoys success on the court and in the classroom. Majoring in nursing and minoring in criminal justice while being a team leader on the volleyball court is no small feat. She might only be a junior in college, but Anna Mallette has big things in her future.
