Chillicothe Cavaliers face the Miami Trace Panthers in football showdown
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The will travel to Washington Courthouse, Ohio, to meet the Miami Trace Panthers Friday night. Chillicothe and Miami Trace both will open Frontier Athletic Conference play Friday.
With both teams putting the final touches on their preparations for Friday night’s game, here’s a quick recap of both Chillicothe and Miami Trace’s season.Â
Chillicothe Cavaliers
The Chillicothe Cavaliers kicked off their 2021-22 season with back-to-back losses to Teays Valley and Wheelersburg. Chillicothe bounced back after losing their first two games with a dominant performance against Walnut Ridge.
The Cavaliers defeated 32-0 behind a solid defensive performance from their secondary. Ben Lewis and Xzavier Doss registered a combined three interceptions to lead the Cavaliers to victory. Chillicothe’s offense rushed for 174 yards and three touchdowns on 46 attempts.
Doug Pryor led his team to back-to-back wins when the Cavaliers won a tight 23-21 game against Logan last Friday. Chillicothe’s offense was led again by their rushing attack, and the Cavaliers rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 31 attempts against Logan.
Defensively, the Chillicothe Cavaliers were led on defense by their senior defensive back Xzavier Doss. The Cavaliers’ senior also contributed on offense by catching two passes for 59 yards and a touchdown. Doss also intercepted a pass during Chillicothe’s 23-21 victory over Logan.
Doug Pryor and the Chillicothe Cavaliers enter Friday’s matchup riding a two-game winning streak. Chillicothe will look to start their conference schedule off on the right foot with a big win against Miami Trace.
Miami Trace Panthers
opened their 2021-22 season against the Waverly Tigers. The Panthers’ season didn’t start as they wanted after losing 42-3 against Waverly. Miami Trace was held scoreless against the Tigers after putting up three points in the first quarter.Â
After their rough loss, Jerry Williams rallied his team and bounced back with a 42-28 win over Wilmington. After heading into halftime tied 14-14, the Panthers out and outscored Wilmington 21-7 in the third quarter. That third-quarter success led to Miami Trace’s victory.Â
The Panthers carried the momentum into their games against Logan Elm and Goshen. Miami Trace outscored both teams 81-6 to cap off a three-game winning streak after their Week 1 loss.Â
Jerry Williams’ Panthers took a step back against in Week 4. Miami Trace suffered a 63-21 loss to Western Brown last weekend. The Panthers’ secondary surrendered 516 passing yards and seven touchdowns.
The Miami Trace Panthers will look to get back on the winning side of football when they host the Chillicothe Cavaliers. Both Chillicothe and Miami Trace are looking to make playoff runs, and if the Panthers want to improve their playoff odds, they’ll need to take care of business against the Cavaliers Friday night.
