Rye Garnets dominate Tappan Zee 41-12, move to 3-0 on the season
ORANGEBURG, N.Y.聽 — The No. 1 priority of a superior team is to win the games they are supposed to win against inferior competition, and following a solid win over Clarkstown North, the Rye Garnets did just that as they dominated the Tappan Zee Dutchman, 41-12.
After a big showing in their last contest, Caden Whaling came back with another dominate performance running the ball 11 times for 238 yards and three touchdowns. This marks back-to-back 200-yard, three touchdown games for Whaling who is off to an amazing start for his ball club. Whaling has also been named a player of the week finalists for the week.
A couple other guys had solid days rushing as well as. Running back Luke Goldzer had eight carries for 75 yards and a score and quarterback Owen Kovacs had 186 total yards with a passing and rushing touchdown.
Defensively, Carter Barford showed out with seven tackles and two sacks. Jack Garnett also had seven tackles and one sack, Charlie Saurack had three tackles and two sacks and Cavatoni Giovanni and Teddy Berkery both totaled five tackles to round out a big night from the defensive side of the ball, an all-around team effort.
The Rye Garnets (3-0) are back home next game as they face Sleepy Hollow (0-2) on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
