Cambridge Bears football prevail in defensive struggle with Creekview
MILTON, Ga. — Over the first nine years of the program鈥檚 existence, the Cambridge Bears had suffered one frustrating loss after another against Creekview, limping to an 0-9 all-time mark versus their neighbors to the north.
All that changed this past Friday night, as the Bears combined a dominant defensive effort with some fourth-quarter dramatics on the offensive side to claim a 7-0 victory on the road in Canton, Georgia.
The Bears have now won three straight games overall and their impressive defense has pitched back-to-back shutouts.
Regarding the defensive unit鈥檚 recent play, Head Coach Craig Bennett gave credit to the entire defensive staff led by Coach Jim Rowell. They 鈥渉ave done an amazing job with game plans, but, more importantly, getting the guys to buy in and play hard.鈥
As the final score makes evident, there was not much offense at all in this contest. However, wide receiver Will Taylor, as he has done all season so far, came up big when the Bears needed it. Locked in a scoreless tie with around 10 minutes left to play, Cambridge quarterback Zach Harris found his go-to guy for a 25-yard scoring strike that would prove to be enough for the win.
On Taylor, Coach Bennett says of the junior that 鈥渉e has really come into his own鈥 and 鈥渄eveloped into a leader in the WR group.鈥
Following a bye week, the Bears will bring their winning streak back to their home field Friday, Oct. 1 for a showdown with Centennial (Roswell, Georgia).
