Ohio Christian University finds next volleyball head coach in Ally Coyle

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Ally Coyle takes over as the head coach for the women’s volleyball team at Ohio Christian University.聽聽

Coyle is a graduate of Kentucky Christian University, where she played volleyball. She was a two-time NCCAA & AVCA First Team All-American, awarded two First Team All-Region selections, Regional MVP, and made the National All-Tournament Team in 2012, according to OCU’s website.聽

She earned her master’s degree from Ohio Christian University before becoming the head volleyball coach at Ohio University-Chillicothe -a position she held until taking the reins at OCU.聽

Coyle is expected to bring “… a strong team culture while creating a solid foundation of consistent and exceptional volleyball skills,” according to one of her assistance Mallorie Williams.聽

Coyle feels that formerly being a Christian student-athlete will help her recruit and relate to incoming players.聽

The Trailblazers compete in the River States Conference, where it has struggled to have winning seasons under previous head coaches. Coyle hopes to change all of that.聽

She states that she gets the opportunity to stay home with her son, which allows her to focus on her volleyball team.聽

“It’s the perfect workload for me honestly and a perfect situation,” says Coyle.聽

According to her former player and now assistant, Williams, “as a player, what I liked most about coach Ally was her willingness to teach and break something down no matter how many times it would take.”聽

She also says she was there for her outside of volleyball and her biggest mentor transitioning into a coaching position.聽

When Williams is asked what Coyle is like outside of being a coach, “inside and outside of coaching, coach Ally is anchored by her faith which truly makes her a compassionate and remarkable role model.

Coyle has begun to make her mark on the program with recruiting. She has six freshmen on the roster and a transfer from Cincinnati Christian.聽 But it is still expected to be a season for growth as Croyle develops her players and implements her team culture.聽

Unsure of the team chemistry in the early season, the Trailblazers聽 coach Williams speculates, “the style of play she brings to OCU will certainly depend on the dynamic of the team and what will work the most efficiently; I would certainly foresee a fast tempo playing style if the opportunity arises.”

Coyle is sure to bring a love for volleyball and her passion for her faith to her players. She hopes this translates to wins for the Trailblazers team and gives the OCU fanbase something to cheer about.聽
