The Plano West High School football team finally deserves respect

PLANO, Texas — The Plano West Wolves varsity football team is finally starting to redeem themselves. After being in the shadow of Plano East, one of Texas’s most successful programs, for many years, the Wolves are at the top of their game this 2021-22 season. Just two years ago, Plano West endured one of their worst football seasons ever. In 2019, the Wolves completed their season with only one win and nine losses. However, the following season in 2020, they finished with six wins and five losses, ultimately getting into the playoffs.

This year, Plano West is currently ranked No. 2 in their district. They have won two games and lost one so far this season, and their future, based on their schedule and standout players, continues to shine brightly. The Texas Division 6A school has been having phenomenal success with their running game, highly due to the prowess of Dermot White, who has more than 350 yards running and six TD’s so far. White is ranked No. 2 in rushing leaders for Dallas-area schools.

The Wolves won their season opener against Wylie High School 49 – 32. They dominated game two by defeating North Mesquite 30 – 12. Last week’s game ended in a heartbreaking loss, 34 – 31, against Little Elm.

The Plano West Wolves have seen their share of disappointments in the last several decades, but on Sept. 24, they begin district play, and that is where they really need to prove themselves. It was difficult always being second to district rival, Plano East, for so many years. The Wolves are ready to be in the spotlight this year, and quite possibly, this will be their time to shine.
