Palm Beach Central stays unbeaten as Ahmad Haston shines in win over Dwyer
WELLINGTON, Fla. — Palm Beach Central quarterback Ahmad Haston shined on Friday night after passing for three touchdowns and leading the Broncos to a 44-14 victory over Dwyer in a non-district contest. Palm Beach Central (2-0) came out firing in the first quarter, taking a 14-0 lead which they continued to add on to ending the first half with a 31-6 lead over Dwyer at halftime.
The Broncos were able to take control early in this game, going downfield on their opening possession and taking more than five minutes off the clock. The Broncos were able to capitalize on this opening drive when Haston threw a screen pass to senior running back Markel King and he ran into the end zone for a 20-yard touchdown.
Haston continued to propel his team to victory when he completed a pass to junior receiver Javorian Wimberly on third-and-9 in which he dashed downfield for a 60-yard touchdown that put the Broncos up 21-0 with 9:05 remaining in the second quarter.
Dwyer (1-1) was able to get on the board in the second quarter when senior quarterback Billy Omahen completed a 61-yard pass to Keyontea Harvey to get the Panthers in the red zone. Omahen ran in for a 5-yard score on third-and-goal to cut into the lead and put the Panthers on the board at 21-6.
Haston and the Broncos did not slow down after the Panthers got on the board. Haston went on the next drive and completed a deep sideline pass to Luby Maurice on third-down to get the Broncos inside the 10 for first-and-goal. The Broncos then capitalized on this drive with a 5-yard rush from Devin Wygant to add to their lead and make the score 28-6. The Broncos continued to score in the second quarter when Fabian Salazar kicked a 25-yard field goal to make the lead 31-6 after the first half.
In the fourth quarter, Haston completed another touchdown pass in the fourth quarter when he tossed a 20-yard pass to Maurice in the corner of the end zone to add on to the Broncos lead to 37-8 in the fourth quarter.
King continued to add to the Broncos score after rushing for a 49-yard touchdown in the fourth. Panthers Kenny McNeal had the final score for the Panthers on the last play of the game where he had a 1-yard score.
Haston and the Broncos will seek to continue the success on the field Thursday as they go on to another non-district matchup against Boca Raton High.
