PG Valor changes head coaches the 鈥榃right鈥� way
LANDOVER, Md. — American Basketball Association (ABA) expansion team PG Valor Basketball team is pleased to announce the hiring of Michael Wright as the new Head Coach of PG Valor.
After recent team and coaching evaluations were done by team owner LaDonna M. Smith, it was determined that some adjustments were needed to continue PG Valor鈥檚 mission of leveling up for this season and beyond. Upon careful consideration and thought, Assistant Coach Michael Wright is now elevated to Head Coach; Irvin 鈥淐hico鈥� Church, III will remain the GM and assist with coaching; and Eric Hawkins will remain as an assistant coach.
Michael Wright听was a standout player in DMV but听his basketball and coaching accomplishments extended all the way to Tobacco Road. Wright鈥檚 Basketball Season in 1980 catapulted him into the DMV Elite Basketball World when he earned All-Metropolitan and All-Inter-high; and was selected to play in both the local Capital Classic as well as the renowned McDonald鈥檚 All-American Game.
At the completion of his stellar High School career, Mike took his talent to the Historical Black College-North Carolina Central University where he had an equally remarkable career and was later named to the NCCU’s All-Time Top 5 Team.
Mr. Wright transitioned into coaching and gained valuable experience as an instructing听 participant at the basketball camps orchestrated by Duke Blue Devil鈥檚 prized Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski; and working alongside the听highly-touched members of Coach K鈥檚 Coaching Tree including Johnny Dawkins and Tommy Amaker.
As a Pillar in The听 DMV Basketball Community, Wright is well respected and connected with players, coaches and influencers throughout the prestigious I-95 basketball corridor and beyond and will continue to prove to be an invaluable resource for PG Valor鈥檚 players and the organization as a whole.听Most of the time, Wright will be seen wearing a bow tie in honor of his brother and their successes.
PG Valor鈥檚 regular season home games schedule is being finalized with home games running from November 2021-March 2022 and could include April 2022 if PG Valor earns a postseason spot. PG Valor will also travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region to possibly compete against teams from North Carolina to Pennsylvania.
