After injury, Chase Beal-Sharp assists the NSU men鈥檚 basketball team in other ways
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Chase Beal-Sharp has loved basketball all his life. He is currently attending school at NSU hoping to get a career in the basketball industry. He admits basketball can be pretty time consuming. Because of this, he says he sometimes has a challenge balancing his schedule. But he has learned that not overwhelming himself is very important. He says the best way to avoid that is by using a calendar to keep everything organized.
鈥淢y sport means so much to me,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t allowed me to meet amazing people. I am pursuing a career in the basketball industry, so I have received advice from several people within the industry. The common theme I have received is to be willing to put in the extra work and time when no one else is. Show up ready to do anything and everything you can to help the team, no matter the time.鈥
Chase recently suffered an injury and has been helping the RiverHawk basketball team by serving as the team鈥檚 manager, PVC and scouting and recruiting intern. He really believes in going the extra mile.
鈥淥ne time I forgot to get a towel out for the game when we needed one,鈥 he said, 鈥渟o I sprinted to the locker room to get one. No matter the mistake, put in the extra effort to fix it.鈥
Although he currently is recovering from his injury, he still likes to take part in his pregame rituals. He likes to listen to Christian hip hop artists like NF and Lecrae before games. He then prays and does whatever the coaches and players need him to do before the game begins.
鈥淢y faith is my top priority,鈥 Chase said. 鈥淯ltimately, all of this stuff is temporary, so I pray and strive that I live a life that is glorifying God. I have a goal to do everything I can to help my team win, while I have an eternal impact. If I can help one person come to know Christ, I will count this season as a success. Winning a championship will be a cherry on top.鈥
Chase wanted to encourage parents to let their kids play if they have the opportunity and interest. 鈥淭here is so much to learn and gain from playing,鈥 he said. 鈥淭hey can learn how to persevere through adversity, they can learn how to handle pressure and it is something that can become an outlet.鈥
