PG Valor hires new general manager to help the team level up
LANDOVER, Md.听鈥听American Basketball Association (ABA) expansion team PG Valor Basketball team is pleased to announce the hiring of Irvin 鈥淐hico鈥 Church, III as their new General Manager.
Irvin was raised in Prince George鈥檚 County, MD and was a 1991 All-Met Shooting Guard at Parkdale H.S located in Riverdale, MD. As a senior Irvin averaged 22 ppg and led the Parkdale Panthers to a 1991 Maryland 4A State Championship where he was named tournament MVP. In college, Irvin attended Georgetown University and played for the legendary Hall of Fame Coach John R Thompson, Jr. His freshman year he averaged 10ppg and was named to the 1991-92 Big East All-Rookie Team. During his 4 years on the Hilltop, Irvin played with Hall of Famers Alonzo Mourning and Allen Iverson.
In 1995 Irvin received his Bachelor’s in Sociology and moved to Las Vegas, NV to enter the Hospitality Industry by way of Gaming. He learned Table Games management inside and out from the best at The Gold Coast Hotel and Casino and The Barbary Coast Hotel and Casino. Irvin became a manager in a few short years and was responsible for table games with inventory worth millions of dollars.
After 10 years of service in the local markets, Irvin decided it was time to try the world gaming market and has worked for the best in the industry such as Caesar鈥檚 Palace, Wynn/Encore, and The Cosmopolitan. Irvin raised his family in Las Vegas, but his heart was always in Maryland. Irvin came home in November 2016 to open the beautiful MGM National Harbor as a Pit Manager.
Today, Irvin is working for the Maryland Department of Human Services as a Logistics Administrator in the Office of Emergency Operations. Emergency Management has allowed Irvin to spend more time with family and give back by serving the residents of the state.
鈥淐hico鈥 brings a level-up leadership style, already proven to assist PG Valor in reaching a higher visibility, discipline and success on and off the court. His passion for the game of basketball and for people in general made him the best candidate to become the new GM of PG Valor.
PG Valor鈥檚 regular season home games schedule is being finalized with home games running from November 2021-March 2022 and could include April 2022 if PG Valor earns a postseason spot. PG Valor will also travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region to possibly compete against teams from North Carolina to Pennsylvania.

About the team: PG Valor is an American Basketball Association (ABA) team in Prince George鈥檚 County, Maryland.听 In addition to competing in the ABA from November through March for regular season games and from March through April for playoff and championship games, PG Valor competes in charity games against other professional and local teams.听 At the end of its first season (2016-2017), PG Valor was ranked No. 2 in its conference.听 PG Valor was ranked No. 1 in its conference and the 2018 Chesapeake Division Champion in its second season (2017-2018).听 Since then, one former player has been invited to Las Vegas for the Ice Cube Big 3 (3-3 league) fourteen PG Valor players have received contracts to play overseas; one player was called up to the G-League; and one player participated in the 2018 ABA All-Star game.听 Recently, three players have been selected for the 2018 ABA Gold. About the ABA: The ABA is a men鈥檚 professional basketball league.听 The original ABA was formed in 1967.听 In 1976, four ABA franchises merged into the NBA: the Indiana Pacers, Denver Nuggets, New Jersey Nets and San Antonio Spurs.听 The lead attorney for the ABA during the merger was Dick Tinkham, who was a co-founder of the Indiana Pacers and the commissioner of the ABA.听 Opposing counsel was David Stern, who later became the commissioner of the NBA.听 In partnership with the NBA, the ABA was reformed in 2000. Today, the ABA has over 100 teams and 1,500 players who are former NBA players, Division 1 and 2 NCAA players, McDonald鈥檚 All-Americans, and international players.听 The ABA has introduced the ABA Gold, a new league that showcases the ABA鈥檚 best players.
