Dutch put up a great performance at Holland Invitational

HOLLAND, Mich. (BVM) — It was an exciting weekend when GR Christian and Gull Lake High School faced Holland Public Schools on Saturday in the Holland Invitational soccer games.

The first game between Holland and GR Christian started at 8:30 am. Levi Hondered got Holland on the board early in the game, off an assist from Isiah Arredondo. Timo Phillips was next on the scoreboard for Holland with a fierce shot from outside the box to put them up 2-0. But Holland Varsity was not done yet. Fletcher scored from a rebound following a wicked Levi strike outside the box to give Holland the 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

It was a strong first half from the Dutch. Holland extended their lead early on in the second half. This crushed all hopes their opponents had of making a comeback. Chris French scored a screamer following a cross by Fletcher Van Howe. Isiah Arredondo scored a PK to end the game after a foul in the box against Luis Jimenez. It was a ruthless 5-0 thrashing by Holland.

Holland kicked off their second game against Gull Lake at 11:30 am. Chris French scored a long-distance bomb to give Holland the lead. Gull was quick to equalize, taking advantage of a free-kick to even the score with 14 minutes left to play in. Holland took the lead once again, heading into halftime, off a long-range strike from Brett.

In the second half, the tables turned on Holland, probably due to fatigue. Gull Lake scored two goals within 5 minutes to take the lead, ultimately winning the game 3-2.
