St. John鈥檚 lands highest rated recruit under Anderson
QUEENS, N.Y. (BVM) — St. John鈥檚 head coach Mike Anderson locked down his highest recruit to date with the commitment announcement from Class of 2022 four-star guard AJ Storr.聽
The Chicago transfer is ranked No. 49 in his class by ESPN and averaged 12.6 points and 1.1 steals this past month playing with the Vegas Elite of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League. Storr becomes the first top-50 prospect since Shamorie Ponds in 2016 to commit to the St. John鈥檚 program and helps the Red Storm coach continue the team’s positive ascension.
鈥淔irst off, I would like to thank god for giving me the abilities to play basketball,鈥 Storr posted on social media. 鈥淣ext, I would like to give a special thanks to my family who has sacrificed so much for me to be able to play the game I love. Also, I would like to thank all the high schools that I played at and teammates that I鈥檝e had. Lastly, I would like to thank all the coaches that have recruited me. With that being said I am 110% committed to St. John鈥檚 University.鈥

Storr originally committed to Illinois before decommitting to the program back in May. The 6-foot-6 guard took visits throughout the summer, checking out Kansas, LSU, Oklahoma, and even returned to Illinois. After a trip to Madison Square Garden, Storr鈥檚聽 decision was quickly made.
鈥淚 went to the Garden and I was overwhelmed,鈥 . 鈥淭here鈥檚 nothing like the Garden and being able to play in that [environment] in New York.鈥
After a 16-11 season in 2021, the Red Storm program has seen back-to-back positive campaigns under Anderson鈥檚 tenure. Storr will join Florida point guard Kolby King who is the only other player committed to the basketball program for the Class of 2022.聽
Storr will wrap up his final high school basketball season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida this year.
