Cal State Fullerton men’s basketball strengthens coaching staff

FULLERTON, Calif. (BVM) – Cal State Fullerton men’s basketball head coach Dedrique Taylor bolstered his coaching staff this week with the addition of Joey Brooks.

“Coach Brooks brings a great deal of experience as a player and coach,” Taylor said in a. “Having played at Notre Dame and worked for Coach Painter (Purdue) as well as Coach Claunch (Nicholls St) he understands the characteristics of a winning culture. We are excited for him to bring that experience to our program as we continue to build a winning program. He is a high-energy coach that wants to roll up his sleeves and go to work with our players. We are really excited to have him join us.”

Brooks spent the last two years as an assistant coach at Nicholls State where the squad went a combined 39-17 over two seasons. Prior to that, Brooks served on staff with Purdue as a graduate assistant for two years. The Boilermakers won a Big Ten Championship and appeared in back-to-back NCAA Tournaments, including one Sweet Sixteen and one Elite Eight run, during Brooks’ time there.

A 2013 graduate of Notre Dame, Brooks was a four-year letter winner under head coach Mike Brey. The Houston native has personally trained or assisted in training over 15 players on NBA/G-League rosters.
