Mamaroneck HS seniors wrap up their final seasons
MAMARONECK, N.Y. — As we close out a strong year of sports, we wanted to feature two senior athletes who have stood out in this spring season. Both Jack Fried and Ryan Mclntrye have spent many years playing their respective sports and this dedication has allowed them to compete at a higher level. Jack Fried will be playing lacrosse at Hamilton College while Ryan Mclntyre will be playing baseball at Amherst college. We caught up with both seniors to hear their thoughts on their respective final seasons.
Q: What is making the team so successful this year?
A: This year’s success has come from our team’s attitude and hard work from the off season. -Fried
Our unselfishness has proven to be one of the main keys to our success so far this season. Every player on our team is willing to make the sacrifices that are necessary to win. Our coach, Mike Chiapparelli, has preached this mentality from the very beginning of the season and it鈥檚 been very rewarding to watch everyone embrace it. 鈥 Mclntyre
Q: How has Covid impacted your season?
A: Covid has made scheduling difficult. We no longer have the option to play some of the Long
Island teams we usually face along with some upstate teams who are great competition. 鈥 Fried
We have been required to follow a 鈥渢ravel team鈥 rule where some players can鈥檛 make the bus-trip to an away game because of social distancing protocols. It has been rough to not have the whole team at away games, especially when we need to create our own energy in the dugout, when everyone else at the game is rooting against us. We understand how fortunate we are to even be playing right now but I hope that sooner rather than later everyone can be there to experience every game. 鈥 Mclntyre
Q: What is your favorite team memory over your Mamaroneck lacrosse career?
A: My favorite lacrosse memory from my time at Mamaroneck was the regional championship
game against Niskayuna where we beat them for the first time ever. 鈥 Fried
Two years ago, we went on a team trip to South Carolina to compete in a tournament there over Spring Break. It was baseball all day beginning with morning runs followed by games and an obligatory stop at Chipotle/Chick fil-a to end the night. It was an amazing experience and I feel so lucky to have been a part of it. – Mclntyre
Q: Have you noticed a change in the team’s energy with spectators now being allowed?
A: I think spectators being allowed at games has made a huge impact on the team’s morals and
energy, both exciting us and giving us nerves. – Fried
At the beginning of the season, it felt like we had to create our own energy and it was tiring to do that for 2-3 hours at the same level of intensity. Fans returning has definitely positively contributed to our energy levels, especially late in games. I was almost beginning to forget how valuable home spectators are, even more so as we head into league play with playoffs around the corner. 鈥 Mclntyre
Q: What excites you most about playing your sport in college?
A: Playing lacrosse in college is something I have always wanted to do. I am excited to compete
at the next level of competition and spend time with the team who I鈥檓 sure will become some of my closest friends. 鈥 Fried
Outside of getting to play the game I love for four more years, definitely the access to specialized coaching. Having an infield coach to specifically work on my technique and ability is very exciting to me. I鈥檓 holding on to this high school season as tightly as I can, but I鈥檓 lucky to have a lot to look forward to next year at college. – Mclntyre
