Richmond Hill alumnus, Luigs, dominating summer baseball
RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (BVM) —Â Since his time with the Richmond Hill baseball team, Kyle Luigs has gone on to do some great things. In three years at the University of North Georgia, the 6-foot-4 pitcher made 50 career appearances and recorded 79 strikeouts. In his final season of collegiate baseball, Luigs was a member of the Division I Jacksonville State Gamecocks.
To keep his upward trend rolling, Luigs has been dominating the Coastal Plain League, a collegiate summer league for some of the country’s best ball players. Luigs’ team, the Savannah Bananas, have gotten off to a blistering 12-1 start, and he has played a large role in that.
Through three starts, Luigs is a league-best 3-0 with a .60 ERA, pitching 15 innings through three starts. He’s allowed a mere two hits and one earned run so far this season, while leading the league in strikeouts at 21.Â
His efforts have earned him Coastal Plain League Pitcher of the Week honors for June 6-13, the league’s second week of the season. With college baseball now in his rearview, Luigs could potentially earn himself a roster spot on a minor league team or elsewhere if he keeps baffling opposing hitters.
