FGCU men鈥檚 hoops adds Sutton to the staff
FORT MYERS, Fla. (BVM) —聽 Florida Gulf Coast University has added a knowledgeable basketball mind to its staff recently in the form of 36-year coaching veteran Kevin Sutton. Sutton, who has coached prep-level teams and collegiate teams joins the Eagles after a three-year stint with the Rhode Island Rams.聽
Sutton is most notably known for his time with the now-national powerhouse, Montverde Academy. During his time with the Eagles (2004-2011), they were dubbed as a 鈥渂asketball factory鈥 by the Orlando Sentinel for their perennial strength. Sutton navigated them to a 186-33 record and churned out 55 Division I players in the process.聽
From that point forward he鈥檚 had jobs exclusively in the NCAA Division I ranks, going from George Washington to Georgetown to Pittsburgh to Rhode Island. He now returns to Florida where he built up his basketball coaching legacy, joining head coach Michael Fly鈥檚 staff.聽
Fly enters the final year of his four-year contract, and winning the ASUN for the first time would almost guarantee a future contract extension. Adding a three-time Team USA coach in Sutton will certainly help the Eagles鈥 chances moving forward.
