The 2021 Jimmy Hitchcock award winners
PIKE ROAD, Ala. — In a banquet unlike previous years the YMCA of Greater Montgomery announced the winners of the 2021 Jimmy Hitchcock Awards. Miller McCarthy, Alabama Christian Academy and Leighton Roberston, The Montgomery Academy received the honor.聽
The Jimmy Hitchcock Committee selected McCarthy and Robertson from 37 outstanding student athletes, who were nominated by their respective coaches and schools for setting a Christian example of moral fitness in their athletic development.聽
Miller McCarthy is a senior at Alabama Christian Academy. His primary sport is football. He has a 4.4 GPA and plans to attend the University of Alabama in the fall on a full tuition scholarship for pre-med. McCarthy attends Landmark Church of Christ.聽
Leighton Robertson is a senior at The Montgomery Academy. She plays basketball and soccer. She has a 4.5 GPA and has been accepted to the University of Alabama, Clemson University, Furman University, University of Virginia, Wake Forest, and Southern Methodist University. Robertson is a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Jimmy Hitchcock was the first All-American football player at Auburn University. Additionally, he played third base for the baseball team and later signed with the New York Yankees. He also started little league baseball in Montgomery.
