Top-ranked Jefferson Academy girls soccer going strong

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (BVM) — The Jefferson Academy girls soccer program has enjoyed a run of success in recent seasons which would’ve likely continued last year had the COVID-19 pandemic not wiped out spring sports across the country. But the Jaguars — unbeaten through the first three weeks of competition this spring — have picked up where they left off in 2019 when they finished as the Class 3A state runner-up after capturing their first-ever state title in 2018.

Jefferson Academy (5-0-1) is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A and has outscored its six opponents 28-2. More impressively, two of the Jaguars’ five victories came against teams currently ranked among the top 10 in Class 3A. They’ve beaten No. 10 Prospect Ridge 3-0 and No. 3 Colorado Academy 4-1 and their only draw came against No. 2-ranked Kent Denver in the season opener.

Sophomore Kate Runyon leads the team with 20 points on eight goals and four assists. Senior Maggie Hirsch is second with 12 points on four goals and four assists while sophomore Allie Jo Kirkpatrick has also scored four goals. Sixteen different players have recorded points for Jefferson Academy with 11 of those players scoring goals and seven scoring two or more. That depth will likely bode well for the Jaguars going forward as they aim to finish the regular season strong and make another run at their second state title in program history next month.
