Hannah Hogue continues Southside tradition

FORT SMITH, Ark. (BVM) 鈥 Following her senior season, Southside High School volleyball standout Hannah Hogue was named Gatorade Arkansas Volleyball Player of the Year. She became the seventh player from Southside to win the award. She will now have her name next to former players like Drew Jones, Jennifer Haaser, and Southside head volleyball coach Natalie (Lundquist) Throneberry in the history books.

鈥淸This group] changed the program and Hannah was an integral part of that,鈥 Throneberry said. 鈥淲hen [this group] came in, every bar from how we behave in the locker room, how we travel, how we practice and how we play, got raised. I think that has a lot to do with the leadership qualities Hanna brings to the court.鈥

Hogue, who stands at 5-foot-9, played primarily as a setter during her high school career. She helped lead the Lady Mavericks to an overall record of 16-4 during the 2020 campaign. The Lady Mavericks also reached the Class 6A state championship match for the third straight season but ultimately fell short. She finished her senior year with 664 assists and 194 digs. Hogue also finished her career with a total of 2,048 assists.

Hogue is a three-time first-team all-state player and during 2020, she participated with the 2020 USA Volleyball Women鈥檚 Junior A1 National Training Team program.

鈥淟ast year I learned to never underestimate anything Hannah puts her mind to,鈥 Throneberry said. 鈥淚 never doubted her ability, but I [would] always stand back in awe of what she can accomplish. Her mindset is unmatched 鈥 with Hannah, the sky is the absolute limit.鈥

Not only is Hannah鈥檚 mindset unmatched on the court, but off the court, Hannah works just as hard. She maintained a 4.0 GPA and enrolled early at the University of Arkansas in the spring of 2021.

She also volunteers with the Delta beta Sigma Philanthropic Sorority to help raise funds for breast cancer research. She has also helped volunteer with the Special Olympics and has helped coach youth volleyball.

鈥淓verything she does, she wanted to do her absolute best,鈥 Throneberry said.聽

Hogue will now join a Razorback volleyball squad that finished fourth in the SEC last year. She is sure to help the team make a run for a conference title.

鈥淚 grew up always wanting to follow in my parent鈥檚 footsteps,鈥 Hogue said in . 鈥淏ut also, when I met Coach Watson, I really believed in what he was doing here and wanted to be a part of it.鈥
