Two Meadowbrook girls basketball standouts sign to play collegiately

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (BVM) — While their senior seasons didn鈥檛 end the way the two girls basketball players hoped, with the Meadowbrook team falling to Bird in the Regional semifinals, both Maya Ellis and Trinity Price will continue their basketball careers. During a signing ceremony on April 30, the two seniors publicly announced their collegiate decisions with Ellis choosing Division I Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Price signing with nearby Division III Eastern Menonnite University.

Ellis was seen as the top prospect for the Monarchs. This past season, Ellis was selected as the Class 5, Region B Player of the Year after she averaged 32 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.1 steals while shooting 47% from the field and 38% from 3-point range. Her stats gave Ellis a spot on the All-Metro first team and her scoring was one of the best in the state throughout the year, even seeing the guard flirt with the Virginia High School League record for points per game throughout a full season of 35.9 set by Jada Boyd of Appomattox Regional GS in 2018.

Her success came after a strong junior campaign which saw the 5-foot-8 guard average 28 pointson her way聽 to second-team All-Metro and all-state聽 honors. She would also hit the 1,000 career points mark with the Monarchs during the campaign.

At Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Ellis will be looking to help the Southland Conference team that went just 6-13 last year and 4-7 in conference play.

Price, on the other hand, will stay much closer to home with the Royals in Harrisonburg, Va. On the court, Price played the perfect second option for the Monarchs, complimenting Ellis鈥 play from the post with an inside presence on both offense and defense. As a junior, Price averaged 11.7 points and 9.3 rebounds a contest and played a similar role as a senior. While her commitment may not come with as much attention as Ellis鈥, Eastern Mennonite seems excited to have a player of Price鈥檚 caliber on the roster.

With the two Monarchs now committed to the next level, the pair will look to bring some additional attention and respect to the Meadowbrook program. As they make their way to the collegiate ranks, both Ellis and Price will aim to have similar success that they had with the Monarchs.
