San Ramon Valley’s Cristiano picks up win No. 100

DANVILLE, Calif. (BVM) – When John Cristiano took over San Ramon Valley girls basketball in 2016, he inherited a program in the midst of three consecutive losing seasons, including a 6-20 season the year before his arrival.

Cristiano has helped turn Wolves basketball around in the four-and-a-half seasons since, and on Monday, he reached a milestone some probably thought would never happen. SRV’s 96-64 victory over Monte Vista on Monday, which kept the Wolves undefeated on the season, was Cristiano’s 100th win at the school.

The monumental win was due in large part to junior Natalie Pasco who led the way with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Sadie Carter also chipped in 16 points and six rebounds while Sierra Chambers added 15 points to go along with seven boards.

SRV’s transformation under Cristiano’s watch has become one of the best º£½ÇÉçÇø in the Bay Area.

In his first year with the Wolves in 2016-17, the team finished with a 14-12 overall record. That win total nearly doubled the following year when SRV went 27-6 and captured an East Bay Athletic League crown. The Wolves went 26-5 and secured another league title in 2018-19 before the program reached new heights last season.

SRV not only finished 27-5 with yet another EBAL championship, but it won the North Coast Section Division I crown, the program’s first NCS championship since 2006.

It’s been more of the same this season for Cristiano and the Wolves who sit at 7-0 after an 88-57 win over Davis on Wednesday night. Cheese Wilkerson led all scoring with 22 points while freshman Sofia Barnes scored a career-high 16 points and Pasco nearly recorded another double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds.

The victory was No. 101 for Cristiano at SRV, who will undoubtedly stack up even more in the near future. The Wolves (7-0) are back in action on Friday night versus Dougherty Valley (1-6).
