Q&A with Mamaroneck senior QB Grant Malas
MAMARONECK, N.Y. — In a year where nothing was normal the Mamaroneck High School football team was able to squeeze in a short season this Spring. For seniors, being able to have their final season meant everything. We caught up with Senior quarterback Grant Malas to hear his thoughts on this unique season.
Q: What are your thoughts on the season being so short?
A: I, and the team, are very grateful to be able to play this year considering what is going on in the world. When I found out we were having a short season, I was so excited to go out with the team and have the opportunity to play during my senior year.
Q:What are your thoughts on playing in the Spring vs. the Fall?
A: It is definitely a bit of an adjustment because I would usually be focusing on lacrosse now. We didn’t have as much time to prepare for the season and we had to learn a lot quicker.
Q: What are some challenges faced during the season due to COVID?
A: My favorite memory was during my freshman year when we beat Roy C Ketcham on the last play of the game. That was a very cool experience.
Q: What is unique about this year’s team?
A: We have 20 seniors on the team and there is a strong sense of leadership. Every person on the team is treated the same and we all have the same goal of winning.
Q: What will you miss most about MHS football?
A: I will miss my coaches and teammates the most after this season. During football, you get to build life lasting relationships. I have been playing football with a lot of these players for almost 10 years now, which makes it even more special Also, I have been fortunate to have great coaches for guidance on and off the field during my four years at the high school.
