Former John Curtis star is heading to Mississippi State
STARKVILLE, Miss. (BVM) 鈥� At the end of March, the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Freshman of the Year Jerkaila Jordan announced that she would be transferring to Mississippi State.
鈥淭he opportunity to be a part of the Tulane Green Wave program has been such a blessing,鈥� Jordan . After a successful and special freshman season, I will be entering the portal, looking to bring my talent to a bigger conference. I鈥檇 like to thank Coach Stockton and her entire staff for the opportunity to play college basketball in my hometown of New Orleans and recruiting me from the very beginning. I would also like to thank my teammates, family, friends, and my hometown for their support along my collegiate journey.鈥澛�
While at Tulane, Jordan averaged 16.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. She also averaged 2.3 steals. Also during her time with the Green Wave, Jordan scored 20 or more points 10 times. During this stretch, Jordan also became the first player in Tulane history to be named freshman of the year.聽
鈥淛erKaila is a high character, hardworking, blue-collar player that has proven to be a very efficient scorer against multiple defenses,” said head women鈥檚 basketball coach Nikki McCray-Penson in a . 鈥淪he was the freshman of the year in a competitive conference, and we think she’s going to be able to help us both offensively and defensively. She is coming in with the mentality that she wants to win and help us compete for championships.鈥�
Jordan continued her dominant streak by setting the Tulane single-season freshman scoring record with 450 points. Jordan was just one of three freshmen to record three starting games with at least 28 points. The two freshmen ahead of here were UConn鈥檚 star point guard Paige Bueckers and Iowa鈥檚 Caitlin Clark.聽

Jordan will now have her eyes set on capturing an SEC title. The Mississippi State women’s basketball team finished with a 10-9 overall record. Jordan is sure to electrify the SEC when she hits the court in Starkville.聽聽
