Duncanville coach awarded National Coach of the Year
DUNCANVILLE, Texas (BVM) 鈥 For 25 years, David Peavy has coached basketball at the high school level. He鈥檚 had success at every stop, but recently the Duncanville High School head basketball coach鈥檚 success has reached new heights with the Panther basketball program.
Previously with Dekaney High School in Houston, Peavey made his Duncanville head coaching debut during the 2018-19 season. It would be a special season for the squad as they would go on to win the Texas Class 6A state title with an overall record of 32-7.
鈥淒uncanville is by far the best basketball job in the country,鈥 Peavy said. 鈥淲e have great resources, great support, our community is about us and about the success of all of our teams no matter what they do. But as far as athletics go, our boys basketball team is really good, our girls basketball team is really good, and our football team is really good. Duncanville is called the 鈥淐ity of Champions. It鈥檚 not just a title, it鈥檚 a way of life for our whole community.鈥
Along with the support of the community, Peavy recently was recognized as the MaxPreps National Coach of the Year. As the head coach of the Panther basketball team, Peavy has led the team to a 90-13 overall record. The team also has yet to lose a playoff game.聽
Huge congrats to on being named National Coach of the Year after leading to another state title. Coach has been one of the best people I鈥檝e worked with/covered since moving to DFW 2 yrs ago. Well deserved honor & not just for the W鈥檚!

But long before Peavy reached Duncanville, he always knew he wanted to be a basketball coach even before he started playing basketball.
鈥淢y dad was in the Air Force as a dietitian and something happened with the basketball coach at his base, they asked him to be the coach, so he started coaching basketball,鈥 Peavy stated. 鈥淸So] one summer I toured with him and his team and got to be in the locker room and fell in love with being a basketball coach. I knew right then at the age of 10 or 11 that I wanted to be a basketball coach.鈥
With Peavy still at the helm, you can expect the Duncanville Panthers to continue to compete for state titles. In fact, the Panthers will be set to defend their 2020-21 title. With only one loss last season, the Panthers defeated Westlake High school in the state championship game. If it wasn’t for the COVID-19 pandemic, the team could鈥檝e won three straight titles.聽聽
But Peavy doesn鈥檛 take all the credit. His staff and his players put in the work and they’ll continue to put in the work as the 2021-22 season approaches.
鈥淚 don’t look at those awards and take all the credit,鈥 Peavy stated. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a testament to the work all of our guys have done. I don’t win that award if we don’t have the back-to-back-to-back seasons that we have had. It took a lot of work from a lot of people for that success to happen. It鈥檚 an honor for our entire program.鈥
