Chino Hills parts ways with head football coach after just one season

CHINO HILLS, Calif. (BVM) 鈥 Josh Cronkite鈥檚 tenure as the Chino Hills High School head football coach lasted just five games. The first-year head coach was told by school administrators on Wednesday that he is no longer the Huskies鈥 coach and unlikely to be retained as a teacher following the spring semester.

鈥淭his was a dream job for me, I wanted to be here for a long time,鈥 Cronkite told the. 鈥淚t was a tough season on everyone, and we were young and were going to get it right. I just wish I had more time.鈥

Cronkite鈥檚 first and only season as Chino Hills鈥 head coach was impacted dramatically by COVID-19, allowing only an abbreviated spring season that lasted just six weeks. There were no playoffs, and spring practices were shut down just as Cronkite began them last March.

The news comes less than a week after the Huskies鈥 season finale on April 16, in which they lost to Ayala 42-0. Chino Hills finished the shortened season at 1-4 with its only win coming against Santa Fe.

Cronkite took over a program that went 6-6 in 2019 after the resignation of former head coach Chris Stevens amid alleged misconduct. Despite the sour ending, he is appreciative of his time at Chino Hills.

鈥淚 wish I could have had a full season,鈥 Cronkite told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. 鈥淚t was expressed to me that it was important that we win now, and I understand that. We all want to win, and I thought we would get there, we were young.

鈥淏ut, hey, look, this was a tough season for everyone. But I loved my time with the players, the coaching staff and I wish the program nothing but the best.鈥
