鈥淚 am extremely humbled and appreciative of the opportunity to lead the Mooresville Basketball program given to me over the past 18 years,鈥 . 鈥淚鈥檝e played a role in the program for 33 years. During those years, I was surrounded by outstanding school administrators, coaches and players. As I walk in a different direction, it is all those relationships that I treasure most. I could never express enough appreciation, to each and every one of them, for their dedication and love for the game of basketball.鈥

Prior to his stint as the head man for the Pioneers, Carter was a junior varsity coach at Jasper High School in the 1980s. He soon became the JV coach at Mooresville and moved up as a varsity assistant for the Pioneers in 1995.聽

The 37-year basketball coach would stay with Mooresville until 2001 when he decided to take the varsity head coaching job at Whiteland High School. After two years there, Carter returned to Mooresville as the varsity head coach and left a lasting impact.

During his 18 seasons at Mooresville, Carter helped the Pioneers to five Mid-State Conference championships, and four IHSAA sectional runner-up finishes. Carter also had the chance to coach six of Mooresville鈥檚 12 1,000-point scorers, and was conference coach of the year four times in his career.

In 2019, Carter was the coach for the North vs. South All-Star game, and he was also the coach of the Hickory Husker All-Star game two times during his career.聽

As Mooresville now searches for its next head coach, Carter moves into retirement, leaving an impressive legacy behind.
