Carver runner Wilson becomes first in school history to sign athletic scholarship

CHESTER, Va. (BVM) — Carver College and Career Academy is not necessarily known for its athletic prowess. As the smallest high school in Chesterfield County, usually with a population of just over 300 students, it is hard for the smaller programs to stand out among the stiffer competition of the Richmond area. However, that didn鈥檛 stop one Wolverines athlete from making the jump to the next level.

Aaron Wilson, a senior runner on both Carver鈥檚 cross country and track and field teams, officially signed on to join the running programs at Emory & Henry College in Emory, Va. According to the school鈥檚 athletic department, the signing made Wilson the first Carver student-athlete to sign a full-ride scholarship with an athletics program.

Wilson has been one of the most significant athletes for Carver over his four years at the school. Being a two-time state qualifier for cross country and outdoor track and field, Wilson has helped put the small school on the running map in Virginia.

Now, Wilson will look to bring his abilities to a bigger school at Emory & Henry, where enrollment is nearly three-times bigger than Carver with roughly 1,000 students. With his abilities, it is likely the bigger stage and higher level of competition won鈥檛 faze Wilson much.
