Pomperaug High School鈥檚 Kate Wiser wins Gatorade XC award
SOUTHBURY, Conn. (BVM) — Many great runners are known for their long legs and ability to move in big strides while racing. But, Pomperaug High School senior Kate Wiser is an elite high school runner standing at just 5 feet.聽
Although she may not have the biggest strides, Wiser is fast and persistent. Her ability to get ahead of the pack is why she is now the 2020-21 Gatorade Connecticut Girls Cross Country Player of the Year. She is the first athlete from Pomperaug to receive this specific honor.聽
This past fall, Wiser ran to a first place finish at the East Coast Championships with a time of 17:25.9. She also captured her fourth consecutive South West Conference championship title.聽
Wiser currently holds Connetcuit鈥檚 5K girls cross country record with a time of 16:46.80, which she clocked at the Northeast High School Club Championships.聽
Next season, she will take her talents to the women鈥檚 cross country team as well as track and field team at Notre Dame.
