Weisbrod earns First Team All-State

DEFOREST, Wis. (BVM) — With high school basketball over, the All-State teams have been announced, and to no one’s surprise, Max Weisbrod was one of the names.

The DeForest high school junior was a big reason why the Norskies, who were one win away from a state tournament berth last year before COVID canceled the season, made it to state this year. It was DeForest’s second state appearance in school history.

Weisbrod was awarded Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) first team All-State honors and Wisconsin AP boys’ basketball third-team All-State honors.

Averaging 18.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.0 assists and shooting 42.6% from 3-point range, Weisbrod led the Norskies to a 16-6 record, finishing with a state semifinal loss to Kimberly.

In what Weisbrod considered one of his best games of the season, the 6-foot-3 point guard had 33 points, six assists and six rebounds along with going 18-18 from the free throw line against Arrowhead in the sectional finals.

His 27 points and 14 free throws in the second half played a major role in the Norskies overcoming a 10-point deficit to move on to the state tournament.

Weisbrod will be a senior next year and will look to build upon DeForest’s impressive season.
